Research activity

Japan has the highest proportion of the elderly people in the world. It is the pressing issue to reform and restructure the social security system and the health care system in connection with the super-aged and the issue of depopulation. In recent year the community-based integrated care system has been advanced in order to support the idea that the elderly can keep on living in their familiar surroundings to their last breath.

Under this scenario, Gerontological and Home Healthcare Nursing is expected much to play highly important role. Gerontological and Home Healthcare Nursing is practical science to support those who wish to spend their remaining time in a community that they long settle in. We are researching how to support senior healthy living and aging with dignity and about the nursing care in environments including their home, in the community, and in the elderly facility. In addition, in order to find and create the new international solutions, we have started collaboration with the University of East Anglia in UK (https://www.uea.ac.uk/).

The research includes:

  • End of life care at home and long-term care institutes
  • Development of practical model for promoting sleep of evidence-based nursing among older adults
  • Pain management for the older adults with cognitive impairment
